NC STATE UNIVERSITY RESEARCH TIMELINE
UX/UI Design, Graphic Design, & Print Design / 2024
For over 120 years, NC State University has led research that shaped industries from agriculture to textiles and engineering. I collaborated with the marketing director, writer, and web developer to design a customized webpage highlighting key milestones, contributors, and discoveries. I also created an award-winning print mailer for Research Week, earning a Silver Award at the 40th Annual EduAD Awards. My work focused on visual strategy, user flow, and a cohesive design system across digital and print.

Prototyping & Visual Strategy
Collaborating with the marketing director and writer, I defined the timeline’s structure and mapped research achievements across decades. Each era was visually distinguished with header graphics featuring a representative breakthrough.
The timeline is organized into pre-1960s, 1960s–70s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Each section highlights curated events with thumbnail images. Using NC State University’s archives, I created layered collages that add depth and storytelling clarity.
The color palette follows NC State’s brand, combining shades of teal and red for consistency. I refined contrast ratios and expanded the palette to differentiate timeline events while maintaining accessibility and visual cohesion across devices.

Web Development & Interactive Features
Working with a web developer, I enhanced functionality and interactivity while preserving design integrity across desktop and mobile platforms.

Feature 1: Clickable Thumbnails
Thumbnails at the top of the page let users jump directly to a chosen decade.

Feature 2: Scrolling Highlights & Hover Effects
Active events are highlighted during scrolling, and thumbnails zoom on hover for focus.

Feature 3: Side Navigation Menu
Color-coded buttons along the right side allow quick navigation between decades.
PEER PUSH MAIL DESIGN
To extend the timeline into print, I designed a mailer for NC State University’s Research Week. The print piece aligned with the webpage’s visual language but was optimized for clarity, legibility, and impact in a physical format. The mailer earned a Silver Award in the Direct Mail category at the 40th Annual EduAD Awards.
By integrating digital and print storytelling, this project reinforced NC State University’s research legacy through cohesive visual communication and user-focused design.
