NC STATE UNIVERSITY PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT

Infographic, Graphic Design, & Videography / 2022-Present

NC State University’s Proposal Development Unit (PDU) supports large-scale, interdisciplinary research proposals by providing strategic planning, coordination, and design services. The unit helps faculty strengthen proposal quality through consultation, team facilitation, non-technical writing, visual design, budgeting, and end-to-end proposal development.

As a Senior Multimedia Designer, I partner with PDU staff, principal investigators, and faculty and graduate researchers to translate complex research concepts into clear, compelling visual assets that improve proposal clarity, alignment, and competitiveness.

NC C-CAPE

The North Carolina Center for Coastal Algae, People, and Environment (NC C-CAPE) addresses critical public health and environmental challenges associated with harmful cyanobacterial algal blooms in North Carolina's coastal waters. The center focuses on understanding the environmental drivers that lead to the proliferation of these harmful algal blooms and the resulting human health risks. In 2022, I collaborated with NC C-CAPE's multidisciplinary team to create figure graphics for their proposal submission.

Following the successful acquisition of a five-year, $6.9 million grant co-funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), the team entrusted me with designing the center's logo. They requested a design that incorporated elements of algae, humanity, and the ocean. Through an iterative process involving multiple drafts and team feedback, I finalized a logo that embodies the center's mission and identity.

WolfSens

WolfSens (Wearable Olfactory Sensing) develops innovative, plant-compliant sensors to advance agricultural sustainability. For their NSF Convergence Accelerator Program proposal, I designed the project logo which incorporates a wolf icon to connect to the team name and NC State's mascot. I selected a lighter shade of NC State red for better contrast across different backgrounds and incorporated green to reflect its plant-related focus.

Additionally, I produced a marketing video by collaborating with the marketing director, program manager, researchers, and a voice actor. I filmed interview footage and b-roll captures and crafted a compelling narrative to showcase WolfSens' impact.

E-sports Major Research Instrumentation Project

In collaboration with the e-sports research team, I developed a distinctive project logo and visual assets for their NSF Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program proposal. Building upon NC State's core palette, I introduced complementary shades of red and gray to add visual depth. The logo was designed to reflect diversity, simplicity, and an e-sports aesthetic. To support the proposal, I also created icons for five key research areas—Education & Training, Health & Wellbeing, User-Interaction Technology, Cognition, and Community—helping to visually organize the proposal’s structure.

Translational Predictive Biology

Translational Predictive Biology integrates data analytics, engineering, and biological systems to improve clinical applications in animal and human health. For a new interdisciplinary faculty hiring initiative, I designed icons representing five key focus areas: Data Analytics, Organoid Biology, Pharmacogenomics, Organ-on-a-Chip, and Organismal Physiology. Additionally, I developed a comprehensive diagram illustrating the interconnectivity of these fields, thereby making the research framework visually accessible and highlighting the collaborative nature of this initiative.
