POST-HELENE SYMPOSIUM

Visual Strategy, UX/UI Design, Graphic Design / 2025

The faculty of University of North Carolina Asheville led a campus-wide symposium to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene. Highlighting the themes of “Remembering, Rebuilding, and Reimagining,” the symposium brought together members of UNC Asheville and the Asheville/Buncombe County area to share histories, stories, science, artworks, impact studies and more. The symposium aimed to contribute to post-disaster research while honoring community resilience in the wake of tragedy.

Branding

The visual identity for the Post-Helene Symposium was designed to reflect community resilience and regional identity, while maintaining a connection to UNC Asheville’s brand. I based the color palette and typography on UNC Asheville’s official branding to ensure institutional cohesion, then introduced an additional typeface to give the symposium its own distinct character.

The logo features a stylized mountain icon, a symbol deeply associated with Asheville’s landscape and spirit. The mountain represents strength, rebuilding, and collective growth — aligning with the symposium’s central themes of “Remembering, Rebuilding, and Reimagining.”

Homepage

The homepage design integrates the symposium’s visual identity — logo, color palette, and design elements — in alignment with UNC Asheville’s brand standards. This page introduces the symposium’s key information and provides intuitive navigation to the schedule and other resources, offering visitors a clear overview and direct access to essential content.

PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS

Canva Template

A series of customizable Canva templates were developed to empower each department to create their own promotional materials. The templates for posters and social media graphics followed the symposium’s visual identity for brand consistency while allowing departments to personalize content for their respective events.
